Unit 4 Blog: Loving Kindness and Mental Workout
In this assignment, we are suppose to write about listening to our meditation, Loving Kindness, as well as describing what a mental workout actually is. I absolutely loved the loving kindness meditation. I also find meditation beneficial for myself and when bringing others into the space, I find it beneficial for them too. As a Reiki master, I absolutely am familiar and comfortable with using meditation as a projection and healing space. I loved how this meditation in particular has you hold space for someone you love and admire and then turn it in towards yourself. That is so beneficial...to feel that same adoration for yourself as you give others. I did not find this meditation difficult at all because I've been doing it for a few years; however, when I first started doing meditation, I did find it challenging like most everyone else. I would absolutely recommend this particular reading to other individuals. It's just super important to develop a healthy psycho-spiritual aspect of yourself.
Mental workouts - the concept of the mental workout is to continually practice mindfulness which comes from contemplative practice. Our intuition is a keen muscle and it expands and strengthens as we develop it. The more we exercise that muscle, the stronger and more fine-tuned it becomes. The more connected we become. When we stop doing meditative and contemplative practice, we tend to disengage with our oneness or connectedness. Research in this area of development is proving that mental training can transform the mind. It can reduce negative emotions and enhance positive ones. It also shows that through the practice of mental workouts and expansion, we can increase our resistance to mental distress and physical disease. Another way of saying this is that the more "at ease" you are with your body and mind, the less stress hormones that have to fluctuate through your body which sets off all sorts of chemical events in your body and brain. When your brain doesn't have to react to stress, that is a good thing. All stress is not bad thing, but continual stress is a different story and brings on disease manifestation because it is a sign that you have not gotten control of the stressor in your life. The more we practice mental workouts as well, it expands our healing capacities and not just within ourselves, but with others as well. The way I implement this practice is by practicing meditation and connectivity to my spirit and divine life daily. There was a time in my life when I had no idea about meditation or the benefits of it. Now, I cannot imagine a day to go by where my life is not spent in meditation and connected to the Universe.
My goal for every woman that every comes across my path is to teach her this simple skill because I truly believe that when we get still inside is when we find the answers.
Wow! I was happy to read your post. I am a beginner at meditation and this exercise was a struggle for me. I am not really 'in touch' with my feelings and tuning into that was a struggle for me. I was very happy to read what you had to say about your journey. It gives me hope to know that through perseverance I can push through and I will eventually be able to sit still for more than ten minutes at a time! I will definitely be looking forward to hearing more about your journey.
ReplyDeleteCourtney, I'm glad my post could be of assistance. Yes, with practice, you will definitely be able to sit still more than 10 minutes. Additionally, there is something called active meditation and sometimes people who like to run or walk can get into the same "meditative" space while doing that activity as one can while sitting and being still. The idea of meditation is to let go, release, connect and receive....it doesn't matter how you do this. I know you'll get through it, though. :)
ReplyDeleteI also think it can help a woman find strength and inner beauty she never had, for her to feel what she feels towards someone else, because I know as a woman it is hard to truly love yourself. I have never done this exercise and I found your post enlightening and I will try again and re-read your post. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, thank you for taking the time to read it.
DeleteI like the meditation exercises as well. I think it provides a opportunity to distress from the day allowing you to refocus your mind on what's important. Often times we are our own worst enemy in that we allow ourselves to be bogged down with the weight of what's going on around us and we lose sight of even ourselves. I enjoyed reading your blog. While I have not been consistent in the practice of meditation, I am consistent in my prayer life. For me this includes a period of listening where I have to quiet my mind and look into my heart for answers. I've enjoyed your posts. I'm not familiar with what a Reiki master is. I'm curious enough to look it up.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my blog. I love prayer. Someone once told me the only difference between prayer and meditation is: prayer is you speaking to God and meditation is God speaking to you. There is truth in that. Yes, look it up. I took Reiki at the beginning of my conscious journey. Best thing I ever did. I'm also an empath (meaning it's easy for me to feel what someone else is feeling) so it helped me to focus that and help others energetically instead of feeling all of this stuff and having no idea what to do. Blessings!
DeleteThanks so much for your inspiring posts! I have only been practicing meditation for several weeks now but I am already feeling more in tune with myself. I feel like I am putting positive energy out into the world and my immediate surroundings. I feel like that positive energy then comes right back at me ten fold. I hope that with continued practice, it will become as easy and natural to me as it seems to be for you.
ReplyDeleteMarisa,
DeleteThat is so awesome! Meditation truly does work and you can use this the rest of your life, not only with daily practice, but with stressful situations, or situations where you just need some guidance. It gives your spirit 10 minutes to speak, uninterrupted. It truly is awesome stuff. It will definitely get easier and more natural for you as you continue. Just keep up the practice. :)
